How To Help A Rottweiler Rescue Dog
So you have decided to help out a poor animal and take on a Rottweiler rescue dog. Good for you! Once you get your new dog settled it he should be fine and there should be years and years of joy and happiness for you and your new dog. It takes a lot to agree to give a home to a Rottweiler rescue dog so you are to be congratulated for taking the time and effort to be humane to an animal that has been treated inhumanely in the past.
It is a shame but the Rottweiler is sometimes exploited for its aggressive nature and trained to be overly aggressive and a danger to people. Unfortunately these Rottweilers cannot be given new homes and are destroyed when it is determined that their behavior cannot be changed. So while it is a tragedy that this happens it is also a relief to you to know that your Rottweiler is not predisposed to being dangerous at all.
A Rottweiler rescue dog is not something to be taken lightly so you may want to get advice from your vet right away on how to break your new dog in and train it so it is a good neighborhood dog. Your vet may also be able to get you the number of a reputable Rottweiler breeder that may also be willing and able to give you good advice you can use to help get your new dog used to your home and the neighborhood too. It takes some time so be patient and always be loving and positive.
Housebreaking is a big issue with rescue dogs and sometimes crating an animal can be considered cruel especially an animal that was just in an abusive situation. If you get a dog that is housebroken then that is one less thing you will have to worry about.
If your dog is not housebroken then you can use the crate method to train it just be sure to use a lot of praise and positive reinforcement and never leave your dog in the crate when you are home.
Give your Rottweiler rescue dog time to adjust to its new surroundings and always take your time and be patient with your new dog. Rottweilers are extremely intelligent and they tend to remember a lot so you need to let your new dog know that the past is behind it and it is now safe in its new home.
It will eventually catch on but it may take some time depending on how badly it was abused before but if you stay with it and always stay positive then you will start to see a change in your dog that will make your heart feel warm.
Never punish your Rottweiler. They don’t like being punished and may respond with their own aggressive behavior so always be positive and always use a lot of love when dealing with your dog. Giving a rescued dog a second chance is a wonderful thing and if you give your Rottweiler the chance to settle in to your home then it can be a wonderful pet.
